With full in-house design, engineering, manufacturing, installation and certification of minor/major modifications on aircraft structures, systems and cabins, AMAC Aerospace leads the industry in advanced engineering solutions for the most discerning clients. Whether the aircraft is a narrow body or wide body, we account for all major OEM’s and their product variants. Whether you want to have your aircraft equipped from an entirely green aircraft with customized cabin interiors or upgrade security and IFE systems on your aircraft or even upgrade partial elements on an existing interior, AMAC Aerospace can cater for all requests.
Located in Basel, Switzerland, AMAC Aerospace’s 100 engineers are spread across multiple disciplines of engineering, designing airframe modifications, avionics systems, mechanical and electrical systems, certification and a full range of tests and analysis.
Employing the latest engineering tools at our disposal, our dedicated and passionate engineering teams work with the interior designers, production teams and our installation teams to ensure the whole process of completion is completed. Our in-house certification staff with expertise in EASA and FAA requirements makes sure that all products and produce from AMAC fulfill the approved interior design package. AMAC’s engineers work with our craftspeople to guarantee that all aspects of the interior fit perfectly, whether it would be styling new cabin layouts, multi function deployable tables and seat functionality, room definitions with specific layouts to decals and emergency equipment.

AVIONIC / ELECTRICAL

Located in Basel, Switzerland, AMAC Aerospace has 20x avionic/electrical engineers that make up this division; no new technology is a show stopper. AMAC designs, tests and produces our own in-house wiring, assimilates wire looms off board the aircraft and takes a pragmatic view to outfitting with regard to avionic/electrical installations.

AMAC’s avionic engineers plan the assimilation of avionic systems as well as the wiring that provides the client with all connections desired.  We endeavor to be at the forefront of all new technology boundaries in the avionic industry as well as the improvements made by aviation authorities.  You can count on AMAC Aerospace to have all the information for overhauls and upgrades through our extensive engineering programs.

STRUCTURAL & INTERIOR

Located in Basel, Switzerland, AMAC Aerospace has 33x structural engineers that make up Cabinets, Structures and Stress.  Whether our engineers are looking to partially adapt a Gulfstream cabin to include a new sliding door bulkhead to designing a ‘Medical evacuation’ area in narrow body aircraft, our mechanical engineers draw on a cumulative pool of years experience to overcome and push the boundaries of what is possible.  With a variety of aircraft worked on in our short tenure our experience extends to a big variety of sizes and models of aircraft that allow our engineers to further pursue creative designs in pull-out tables, high low tables, credenzas, vanities, wardrobes and galleys.  New technologies and new designs allow for our engineers to diversify and adapt to new client/market demands.  For any information on our STC lists, please refer to our hyperlink under the section ‘Certification’.

We want to make your operation and vision a reality.

AMAC’s mechanical engineers use integrated engineering approaches with the latest tooling to help develop their work into tangible results.  The latest software’s include 2D and 3D computer aided technology for design, modeling and feasibility studies;

  • Enovia V6,
  • AutoCAD Lt 2012,
  • CATIA V6,
  • AMOS and
  • Engineering Base V6.4.

Stress calculations and modeling use;

  • FEMAP
  • NX Nastran V11.1
  • AFGROW

SYSTEMS

As a part of AMAC’s engineering department, AMAC’s engineers are in charge of the modification and development of aircraft systems. System Engineers are involved from the very beginning until the delivery of all Completion and many Refurbishment Projects. They are part of the concept phase, the following design phase, all follow-up steps and finally they are part of the test flights. The team consisting of nine employees who are divided into two different sub- groups following the different categories of aircraft systems:

  • Air conditioning systems,
  • Water/waste systems and
  • Oxygen systems

In addition to the various engineering activities arising with modifying and designing aircraft systems, the system engineering team works as well on soundproofing, emergency evacuation simulation, thermal management of cabinets and oxygen mask reach analysis.  Whether AMAC’s work is on the BBJ Demonstrator or up to the B747-8i, from a ventilation system for a self defense system up to a customers’ request to cool down the master bedroom to less than 10 degree – there is a broad variety when it comes to the tasks, challenges and projects of AMAC’s system engineering department.

DOCUMENTATION / BURN TESTING

AMAC Aerospace has developed and incorporated a documentations unit whereupon all new documents belonging to an aircraft will be received at our facility, housed in our libraries under the hangars and with any new generation of documentation, these will be added. If the aircraft requires any newly created documents which affix to the archive based records of the asset, these will be given to our Quality Assurance department, whereby they will be collated and kept together.

Laboratory testing, such as the Flammability Testing of all interior- and soundproofing materials is an important safety element for all AMAC Interiors. Essentially all Completion- , Modification- and Refurbishment-Projects require burn-testing as part of the substantiation and certification process.

The AMAC’s Flammability Testing Team consists of three engineers, who take care of the mandatory testing and the required documentation.

All materials used for seats, curtains, cabinets, wall & ceiling panels and carpets must pass the Burn-Testing. Depending on the material chosen by the Interior Designer, flame retardants or other specific surface treatments need to be applied in order to pass the burn-testing. Since cotton, silk, leather or wood are organic materials; it takes experience and know-how to decide on right chemicals or application process. Sometimes several trials are required to find the right treatment for a VIP finish to pass the Burn- Testing.

The testing is performed with a set of 3 Test-Samples, which have to stay in a climate-chamber for 24 hours before the flammability testing can be conducted. The treatment in the climate-chamber improves the consistency of the test-results.

The objective of each burn test is to prove that the tested material is self-extinguishing. Depending on the installation location in the aircraft, the material needs to withstand the Bunsen-Burner-Flame for 12 or 60 seconds.

CERTIFICATION

AMAC Aerospace’s Design Organization enjoy STC’s are a fundamental development activity at our facilities in Basel, Switzerland. All completion projects that come to AMAC Aerospace have in one way or another a minor and/or major change to how the STC is created/written from the OEM (if green) or from the completion centre who first carried out the first interior completion (refurbishment). What AMAC’s ‘Office of Airworthiness’ endeavors to do, is to change the existing floorplan of the aircraft where all our engineering experience culminates into a pure and logical reasoning to the authorities, whether it is EASA and/or FAA, to qualify the work that has been accomplished at AMAC and to have the aircraft return back to service, which is essentially an allowance for the aircraft to return to the skies. Within AMAC Aerospace we have 8x qualified completion/maintenance inspectors and 14x Certified Verification Engineers (CVE’s), who check and approve all work that has been completed on the aircraft. Whether AMAC has produced parts to complete a solution, whether a maintenance package is carried out in parallel to the completion task(s) and/or ensuring that all documentation which is derived from the asset is up to date and archived accordingly.
