AMAC Aerospace’s Bombardier supervisor team received a request on Friday noon for an AOG support on a Bombardier Global XRS in Europe; a side brace actuator was leaking. Without delay, AMAC sent a team to help their long-term customer and checked if the aircraft was still airworthy. After a first check, AMAC and the client decided to ferry the Global XRS to Basel and to have the side actuator replaced. The work was accomplished by late Sunday afternoon and the aircraft went back on its mission.
Linear hydraulic actuators play an important role within aircraft systems. In smaller aircraft, hydraulics are often used in order to operate wheel brakes, retractable landing gear, and constant-speed propellers. On large aircraft though, they are often used for flight control surfaces, wing flaps, and spoilers.
